My kitsch therapy
The Discreet Charm of the Degraded Tastes was the subject of a workshop given by the artist Gülsün Karamustafa. Each participant had to work out his own approach towards Kitsch and present an artwork at the end of the workshop-week in a small exhibition. In my mind Kitsch appeared usually as any object without proper use or personal and emotional relation and portrayed therefore a kind of counter piece to my daily life. The working process became sort of a kitsch-therapy to leave old routines and habits behind, in order to allow there to be more exploration through new terrain. In the end the results have been two life-size self-portraits, showing my two concepts of Kitsch and Antikitsch.
